Five Fun Fall Festivals to Visit This October

Non-stop fun is waiting for you on the Grand Strand this October. Whether you’re a thrill-seeking adrenaline junky looking for a scary good time at one of the area’s numerous haunted attractions or you’re just looking for some not-so-scary fun at any of the area’s numerous fall festivals, the Grand Strand has something for everyone. If you and your family are anywhere near the Grand Strand this October, check out these upcoming events.

Harvest Home Festival-(Oct 5th-Oct 6th)

Fun for the entire family is waiting at Brookgreen Garden’s annual fall festival. Boasting hayrides, a petting zoo, live entertainment and a veritable smorgasbord of scrumptious food; this festival is one of the largest family events of the year.  Children and adults alike will adore the gargantuan pumpkin patch where guests can pick and paint their own pumpkin. The main event of the two-day festival is a massive, over the top scarecrow building contest.

The two-day event runs 9:30 am-4:00 pm. This year’s live entertainment line-up includes the Danza Azteca Native American Dance Troop, DJ Mimi B, as well as blues singer Randy McQuay, and guitarist Shelley Sasser.

Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest-(Oct 11th-Oct 12th)

Boasting 60+ vendors, hayrides, a live German Oompah band and a medley of fall-themed fun, Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest is the largest festival this side of Munich. Fun for the entire family awaits at this two-day event; including a massive pumpkin patch, face painting, hayrides, inflatables, costume contests and more. And of course—bier, lots and lots of German and American bier.

28th Annual Myrtle Beach Greek Fest- (Oct. 17th-Oct. 20th)

Enjoy an evening of music, dancing, and tantalizing Grecian delicacies at the 28th Annual Myrtle Beach Greek Fest. Tour the iconic St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church before strolling in-and-out of various stalls of handmade crafts. Fill a plate with savory spanakopita, gyros, and decadent baklava. Young or old, Greek or not, this three-day festival is can’t miss event for anyone in the Grand Strand.

The 28th Annual Myrtle Beach Greek Fest will be held at the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church from 11am-9pm on Oct. 17th, 11am-10pm on Oct. 18th and 19th, and 12pm-7pm on Oct. 20th.

30th Annual Georgetown Wooden Boat Show- (Oct. 19th-20th)

Always held on the third weekend in October—the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show has been a Grand Strand tradition for more than three decades. Held along the historic Georgetown Waterfront, the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show has been voted among the Top 20 events by the Southeastern Tourism Society. Guests can enjoy exploring more than 140 classic wooden boats during this thrilling weekend festival. Families in particular will be thrilled by the festival’s various events; including a 4-hour boat building competition, a Corrugated Boat Regatta, children model boat building, maritime art and crafts. If you are anywhere near the Grand Strand during this event, this Boat Show is a must.

40th Annual Loris Bog-Off Festival- (Oct. 19th)

Looking for an authentic taste of the low country? Then check out the 40th Annual Loris Bog-Off. For those unfamiliar with this heavenly concoction, Chicken Bog is a Lowcountry specialty made from rice, chicken, onion, sausage and a unique blend of savory spices. With more than 200 different vendors, a car and tractor show, fireworks, and two stages of live entertainment, the Loris Bog-Off has been a local favorite for generations.
