The Myrtle Beach Marathon

For many, March means warmer weather, the coming of spring, and St. Patrick’s Day but in Myrtle Beach, March means the Myrtle Beach Marathon. March 5th,  2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the Myrtle Beach marathon. This marathon can be used to qualify for the Boston marathon and was named “one of the top ten winter marathons” by USA Today. The weather will be warm and the beach view unbeatable!

The Myrtle Beach Marathon has an event for most everyone. Registration is completed online and there are plenty of options for participants. The full marathon is not the only event taking place. There will also be a half marathon, a 5K, a virtual 10k, and family fun run. Below are details about each event.

Full, Half, and 5k

The starting line for the full, half, and 5k is at Robert Grissom Parkway just South of the intersection of Grissom Parkway and Monticello Drive. There will be plenty of parking at Broadway at the Beach. The start time for the full and half marathons is at 7 am and for those using wheelchairs and crank chairs, the start time is 6:55 am. The 5k begins at 8 am. This year, participants have the option of having their race bib mailed to them. Participants also receive a 25th-anniversary commemorative medal, a shirt, and a special finisher’s gift.

Virtual 10k

2022 is the second year that the Virtual 10k will take place. It first began as a “socially distanced” and safe option during the pandemic. Runners can complete the Virtual 10k from the comfort of home and without having to wake up early. Those who sign up for the Virtual 10k will not miss out on marathon goodies. All participants receive a downloadable race bib to wear while they run as well as a finisher’s medal and participant shirt which is mailed after the day of the in-person event.

Myrtle Beach Double

Participate in the “Myrtle Beach Double” by first completing the Virtual 10k and then completing the full, half, or 5k. Simply finish the Virtual 5k sometime between February 18th and March 4th. Those who want to run both the virtual and in-person races can sign up for both and will then receive finisher’s goodies for both after the in-person marathon. There is a separate and exclusive medal for Virtual 10k finishers. The Virtual 10k is also a good opportunity for those running longer distances to train beforehand.

Family Fun Run

The Family Fun Run is for all ages and levels and yes, you can even bring along the little ones in strollers. This event is at 1 pm on March 5th. The fun run is only a mile long and will take place at the Pelican’s Ballpark Field. Registration for the Fun Run is online and must happen before the day of the event. Each participant will receive a finisher’s medal and a commemorative t-shirt. The fun run is a great way to get the little ones and kids of all ages involved.
